The Foundation was incorporated on 5 April 2008 and listed as a charity on 3 June 2008,
its purposes being to manage and develop the Wordsworth Summer Conference and Winter School and to administer bursaries to enable postgraduate students and private scholars to attend these events.

Members and Friends of the Wordsworth Conference Foundation pay a one-off Life Subscription of £295. Membership is a legal status, requiring election by the Trustees and the signing of a liability guarantee. Members have a vote at General Meetings and in the Election of Trustees. Friends enjoy the same privilege of a 10% discount on the fee element of our conferences, for a period of fifteen years, but without the legal liability or the voting rights. It is of course possible to sign up first as a Friend of the Foundation and then apply for election as a Voting Member.
