Grasmere
5-8 March 2025
The Wordsworth Winter Conference will take place at the Jerwood Centre at Dove Cottage, Grasmere, UK, 5- 8 March 2025.
The 2025 Programme
This year, there will be a special focus on the works of the master engraver and printmaker, Thomas Bewick.
Jeff Cowton will introduce us to the Wordsworth Trust's
extensive Bewick collection. Christopher Bacon, master printmaker, will give a
demonstration about Bewick's printmaking techniques. Francesca MacKenney will talk about Bewick and John Clare, and
Christopher Rovee will talk about Helen Darbishire: Scholar, Teacher, and Chair of the Dove Cottage Trust.
The programme includes a full roster of talks and lectures, walks, a musical performance, conference dinner, teas, coffees and lunches. We may even be treated to a recital on the organ....

Proposals
We invite 200-250-word outline proposals for
twenty-minute presentations.
All papers on Romantic-era topics will be considered and we hope to see several on subjects
related to Bewick, animal rights, printmaking, and book illustration. Please email your proposal, with a title and outline of your proposed presentation, to
proposal.wsc@gmail.com to arrive by
Friday 15th November, 2024.
Bursaries
A limited number of bursaries of £250 are available to
postgraduates and early career post docs, on presentation of a single academic reference to support their paper presentation.
Please indicate that you are applying for a bursary by writing 'bursary application' in the subject line of your email.
Registration will open in October.

Travel
Train
If you are coming from the South, you can get a train to Windermere. From here it is a simple bus ride to Grasmere.

Bus
Once you are in Windermere, you can get the 555 or 559 bus
from directly outside the station. These are regular and will take you directly to Grasmere:

Travelling from Outside the UK
We recommend flying into Manchester airport. From here
there is a direct train to Windermere. There are also frequent trains to Oxenholme - you can easily change at this station for Windermere (one stop).
